Public High Schools in Canton Georgia Sequoyah High School 4485 Hickory RdCanton, GA 30115 (770) 345-1474 Enrollment: 2055, 9th-12th grade Sequoyah High School is well established as a Georgia School of Excellence in Academic Achievement. With honors such as a National Blue Ribbon School and being named one of the 1000 Best High Schools in the nation by Newsweek Magazine, Sequoyah’s reputation is undisputed in the community. 930 Marietta Hwy. Cherokee High School opened its doors for the 1956 school year and continues to welcome students year after year. The Cherokee Warriors boast a 95% Achievement Score from the state. Along with a comprehensive curriculum for academic and career enrichment courses, Cherokee High School offers a full spectrum of competitive high school athletics. Of the teachers at CHS, 54% hold a master’s degree or higher advanced degree. The school’s student-teacher ratio is 17:1. Creekview High School

Store Road The brand new Home of the Grizzlies is scheduled to open its doors in August 2006. Creekview High School, located in north Canton, housed its 9th graders at Creekland Middle School last year, and is very excited about having its own facilities for the coming year! Creekview High is built to comfortably hold up to 1,875 students with room for temporary classrooms as needed. Creekview High School will undoubtedly establish itself in the area in years to come and help prevent future overcrowding in Cherokee County’s high schools. Store Road Creekland Middle School opened its doors for the 2004-2005 school year with a 173,000 square foot facility. During a transitional period, Creekland Middle housed a 9th grade class that has moved to its new home at Creekview High. Creekland Middle exceeded the state average in all CRCT testing for 2005. Hickory Road The enrollment at Dean Rusk has decreased by 30% over the past two years due to the opening of Creekland Middle School. This has resulted in a 13:1 student-teacher ratio, below the state average. With a 93% Achievement Score from the state, Dean Rusk Middle is committed to academic excellence. Cumming Highway Buffington Elementary first opened its doors in 1910 with 2 teachers on staff! It has expanded over the years, but remains the smallest elementary school in Cherokee County. Located in rural northwest Cherokee County, Clayton Elementary has yet to be significantly affected by the development and growth throughout the rest of the county. Cumming Highway Free Home Elementary is proud to be named a 2004 Georgia School of Excellence. Located in rural east Cherokee County, Free Home Elementary was established during the Civil War as a one-room schoolhouse. Through many changes in grade configuration, Free Home remains a close-knit environment with a high degree of influence in the community. Cherokee Drive Hickory Flat Elementary School, where HFES stands for Honor, Focus, Excel, Succeed, was established in 1838 as Hickory Flat Academy. A new gymnasium offers state-of-the-art sound and light equipment and a full-size basketball court. Ferry Rd. Liberty Elementary opened its doors in 2002 as the Home of the Lions. The school is a living memorial to the victims of 9/11 and also celebrates the original Liberty School in North Cherokee County during the early 1900s. Liberty was recognized with the 2005 Bronze Award from the State of Georgia’s Governor’s Office for Student Achievement for having a very high percentage of students meeting and exceeding standards.
